DESCRIPTION:
The Orchard on 2nd is located on Second Avenue in Melville. The guesthouse is within walking distance of 7th Street where you will find an array of different restaurants and quaint little shops. It is a short walk from the famous 7th Street with its fine dining, live entertainment, jazz clubs and lovely little shops. You can sit on the side walk and eat at one of our great restaurants or just have a coffee while reading your paper.
The area offers an information centre, restaurants, Bureau de Change, an ATM, antique shops, book shops, a spa, art, a boutique and gift shop. The Famous and awarded Koljander Home Industry can be recommended for their baking. Campus Square Shopping Centre, where groceries, stationery, Fast food restaurants and banks can be found, is a stone’s throw away. Medicross Meldene, Melville Pharmacy, Mays Chemist and Milpark Hospital would be able to take care of your medical needs.
Accommodation
We offer six rooms, each with an en- suite bathroom and or shower. Our gardens are well kept and add to the tranquillity of this sanctuary. Have a refreshing plunge in our dark pool or drink up the South African sun from the deck.
We have gleaming wooden floors, original high pressed ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and fireplaces in some rooms. Most of our bathrooms have big claw-foot tubs. The showers are tiled with natural stone and have quality fittings. All our rooms have soft, white bath sheets and crisp white linen. The duvets are Duck down for cold winters and warm summers.
We are 3 star graded by the Tourism Council of South Africa and offer 4 Double rooms and 2 Twin rooms with Single beds, which can easily be converted into King sized beds. All are en-suite. Our white linen is of a high quality and you’ll sleep and bath like royalty. Each room was tastefully decorated in keeping with the older style of the house. The rooms offer modern amenities such as a flat screen TV with a DSTV bouquet, hairdryer, fan / heater and a complimentary tea and coffee tray.
It will feel like your home away from home with its peacefulness and beautifully decorated rooms to remind you of yesteryear. You can be assured of attention to detail and great service at all times.
Breakfast
Prices include an English breakfast with cereals and fruit, which is tastefully prepared by Mina. Breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking the swimming pool and garden. Come and sit on the verandah with the ornamental fruit trees which inspired our guesthouses’ name. High tea and small functions can be arranged on request.
Facilities
Transfers to and from the airport can be arranged and tours can be organised. Wireless internet and copying facilities are available. Laundry can be done on request at an extra charge.
Places of interest
We are in walking distance from the famous 7th Street where you can dine at a variety of restaurants or shop at our quaint little shops. We are right by the SABC, Milpark Hospital, Wits University, University of Johannesburg, Costitution Hill, The Apartheid Museum, The Melville Koppies and the Emmarentia dam just down Beyers Naude.
The beautiful old Johannesburg club is just around the corner. Melville boasts with great restaurants, coffee shops and grand old antique shops. You will also be close to The cradle of Humankind, the OR Thambo Airport (25 km), the Mandela Bridge and the Johannesburg Zoo. For business travellers we are minutes away from the Johannesburg CBD and close to all the major high ways. |
